ÆLITEFLO™*/ÆLITEFLOLV
Low Modulus Microhybrid Composite
GENERAL INFORMATION
ÆLITEFLO and ÆLITEFLO LV (Low Viscosity) are light-cured, highly
filled microhybrid composites with a low modulus of elasticity.
These flowable composites are ideal for Class III, Class V and some
smaller Class IV restorations. They may also be used as a cavity
liner (Class I or Class II), pit and fissure sealant, for repair
of marginal defects, blocking out undercuts, porcelain repairs,
porcelain veneer cementation or with splinting materials (e.g.,
fibers, orthodontic wire). With an average particle size of 0.7
microns, these composites are highly polishable and due to the barium
glass filler, they are designed to be radiographically apparent
at a greater than 2 mm thickness.
Even though ÆLITEFLO and ÆLITEFLO LV are flowable, their properties prevent
them from slumping for better control in hard to access areas. Using
the provided tips, these materials are easily injected directly
into the cavity preparation and usually can be shaped with the tip
itself.
Studies by C.
L. Davidson and C. M. Kemp-Scholte1 have demonstrated
that a strong correlation exists between margin failure and Young's
modulus of the composite restorative material, especially in a Class
V restoration. The higher the modulus of elasticity, the stiffer
thematerial, thereby increasing the possibility of margin failure
during occlusal loading. The elastic modulus2 of dentin
is about 18 GPa whereas ÆLITEFLO is about 3.6 GPa,
giving it more elastic characteristics. These characteristics compensate
for curing contraction stress, reduce the frequency of margin microleakage
and possible debonding. This is especially important in restoring
patient's dentition with multiple abfraction lesions, where a highly
filled stiff composite may ultimately fail.
The principal
uses of ÆLITEFLO are:
|
Class
V
Class III
Small non-stress-bearing Class IV
Cavity liner (Class I or Class II)
Porcelain veneer bonding
Splinting - Cementing tooth to tooth
Marginal defect repair |
Implant seal
Buccal pit restorations
Porcelain repair
Pit and fissure sealant
Adult preventive resin
Small core build-up
Deciduous Class I or Class II |
The principal uses of ÆLITEFLO LV are:
Small Class V
Pit and fissure sealant
|
Cavity liner (Class I or Class II) |
HELPFUL HINTS |
|
1. Both the ALL-BOND 2 ®*
and ONE-STEP®* adhesive systems function best in
a "moist" environment, therefore a visibly moist surface
must be observed. After rinsing the etchant, lightly air dry the
preparation. The use of a rehydrating agent such as AQUA-PREP*
F is recommended to ensure proper moisture.
2. Once ÆLITEFLO/ÆLITEFLO
LV has been placed and light-cured, it must be finished with
discs and/or polishing paste, etc. The restoration may appear smooth
and polished immediately after placement, however an oxygen inhibited
layer is present and must be removed to prevent staining.
3. Dispose of dispensing tip
after each use to avoid cross-contamination. |
INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE |
1. Prior to isolation, select
appropriate shade of ÆLITEFLO/ÆLITEFLO LV.
2. Isolate and prepare the tooth
in a conservative manner. Clean the entire preparation with a slurry
of pumice and a disinfectant, such as CAVITY CLEANSER*, or
water.
3. Etch using an etchant, such
as UNI-ETCH®* or ETCH-37*,
according to manufacturer's instructions.
4. Apply an adhesive, such as
ALL-BOND 2, ALL-BOND 3™, ONE-STEP or ONE-STEP PLUS, according to the manufacturer's
instructions.
5. Using the previously selected
shade, place 1-2 mm increments of composite into the cavity preparation.
To prevent excess material extruding from syringe, pull back plunger
immediately after the desired amount is dispensed. Light-cure each
increment for 20 seconds at 500m/Wcm2. Continue to build incrementally until
cavity preparation is filled to the cavosurface margin.
6. After finishing and polishing
have been completed, apply a surface sealant, such as FORTIFY*
or FORTIFY PLUS, according to manufacturer's instructions.
OR If using BisCover* LV Liquid Polish, finish and apply BisCover
LV according to manufacturer's instructions. This will improve marginal
integrity and reduce wear and staining.
