Low Shrinkage Posterior Composite
GENERAL INFORMATION

ÆLITE LS is a light-cured, highly filled (85%-90% by weight), low shrinkage posterior composite. Due to the high filler content, this composite provides ease in establishing occlusal contours, proximal surfaces and interproximal contacts. ÆLITE LS is radiopaque, making radiographic identification and evaluation simple. It is intended for use with 4th or 5th generation adhesives such as ALL-BOND®* 2, ONE-STEP®* or ONE-STEP® PLUS and a surface sealant such as FORTIFY™* or FORTIFY PLUS.

The principal uses of ÆLITE LS are:
1. Class I and II restorations.
2. Core build-ups to replace missing tooth structure.

ÆLITE LS is available in shades A2, A3.5, B1, C2, C4 and D3 that correspond with the VITA® shade guide.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE

1. Select an appropriate shade of ÆLITE LS prior to tooth desiccation.

2. Isolate tooth and prepare the cavity in a conservative manner. Clean the entire surface with a slurry of pumice and a disinfectant such as CAVITY CLEANSER™* or water.

3. Etch using an etchant, such as ETCH-37™* or UNI-ETCH®*, according to manufacturer's instructions.

4. Apply an adhesive, such as ALL-BOND 2, ONE-STEP or ONE-STEP PLUS according to the manufacturer's instructions.

5. Dispense desired amount of appropriate shade of ÆLITE LS composite onto a light-protected mixing pad by turning syringe handle clockwise. To prevent excess material escaping from syringe, turn handle counterclockwise immediately after the desired amount is dispensed. If using Unit-Dose Tip, inject composite directly into preparation.

6. Using the previously selected shade, place 1-2 mm increments of composite into cavity preparation. Refer to the following table or the "Calculating Curing Time" section and light-cure each increment. Continue to build incrementally until cavity preparation is filled to the cavosurface margin. The final increment should be light-cured for 40 seconds.

500m
mW/cm2
A2, B1, C2 A3.5, C4, D3
Light-cure 15 sec. Light-cure 40 sec.

7. Check the occlusion and begin finishing procedures. After finishing and polishing have been completed, rinse the tooth and restoration with a copious amount of water to remove all debris.

8. Etch the surface of the restoration and approximately 1-2 mm beyond the tooth/restoration margin, for 15-20 seconds.

9. Rinse with a copious amount of water and thoroughly air-dry the tooth and restoration.

10. Place a new needle brush-tip on the FORTIFY PLUS syringe and push the plunger until the needle brush-tip is soaked with the surface sealant. Apply a thin layer to previously etched surfaces using a scrubbing motion. Air-thin by blowing a gentle stream of air over this layer to assure an even distribution.

11. Light-cure the surface sealant for 10 seconds. Verify occlusion.

WHAT IS EOP?
Energy for Optimization of Polymerization [EOP] is the minimum amount of energy required to achieve clinically acceptable polymerization of a 2mm thick layer of composite, assuming the tip of the curing light is 1-2mm away from the composite surface. EOP differs with the shade of the composite.

CALCULATING CURING TIME: Energy delivered to the surface of the composite depends on power density of the light, spectral output of the light [useful energy], exposure time and the distance between the light probe and the composite surface. Assume the EOP on a composite syringe label is 10 Joules [10J]. You must first determine the output, or power density [expressed as PD], of your halogen or PAC light. Use a radiometer to determine this value. For example, if you set your light output (PD) for 500mW/cm2, then the calculation is as follows:

1. Conversion: 10J [from the composite label] is equivalent to 10,000 mJoules.

2. Curing time required = EOP/PD = 10,000/500 = 20 seconds
