ÆLITE™ LS Packable
Low Shrink Hybrid Composite

GENERAL INFORMATION

ÆLITE LS Packable is BISCO's answer to the general need for a wear-resistant, easily placeable posterior resin composite with low curing shrinkage.

ÆLITE LS Packable is a light-cured, hybrid composite system which incorporates two distinctive radiopaque materials, DENTIN and ENAMEL. Due to the high filler content (DENTIN-83.5%-88.5%, ENAMEL-81.5%-86.5% by weight), this low-shrinkage, packable composite provides ease in establishing occlusal contours, proximal surfaces and interproximal contacts. The depth of cure for the DENTIN is 2mm, while the depth of cure for the ENAMEL is greater than 2mm. It has handling characteristics that are similar to amalgam. ÆLITE LS Packable is radiopaque, allowing for radiographic identification. The ÆLITE LS Packable system aids in creating a highly stratified restoration when using the DENTIN and ENAMEL layers. It is intended for use with adhesives such as the ALL-BOND®* and ONE-STEP®* Adhesive Systems.

Refer to manufacturer's instructions. Not all one-bottle adhesives bond to dual-cured or self-cured composites. Unlike others, ONE-STEP and ONE-STEP PLUS bond to dual-cured and self-cured materials.

The principal uses of ÆLITE LS Packable are:

1. Class I and II restorations.
2. Core build-ups to replace missing tooth structure.

ÆLITE LS Packable is available in three DENTIN shades (A1, A2, A3) and in two ENAMEL shades (NEUTRAL and YELLOW GRAY).

ÆLITE LS Packable DENTIN shades correspond with the VITA® shade guide. ÆLITE LS Packable DENTIN may appear to be slightly dry upon dispensing from the syringe, but once manipulation begins, the composite takes on an ideal consistency.

  • To polymerize, ÆLITE LS Packable composites require a light source with a full spectrum (400-500 nanometer) wavelength, produced by conventional halogen curing lights. For other curing modalities (PAC, laser, etc.), check with manufacturer to determine output wavelength.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
1. Select ÆLITE LS Packable shades prior to isolating and preparing the tooth.

2. Clean the preparation with a slurry of pumice and water or a disinfectant, such as CAVITY CLEANSER™*. Rinse and dry the preparation.

3. Etch the preparation using an etchant, such as ETCH-37™*, UNI-ETCH®* or TYRIAN™ SPE, according to the manufacturer's instructions.

4. Apply an adhesive, such as ALL-BOND, ONE-STEP or ONE-STEP PLUS, according to the manufacturer's instructions.

5. For preparations with highly irregular internal surfaces, place a flowable composite, such as ÆLITEFLO™* LV, as the initial increment to maximize the adaptation of ÆLITE LS Packable DENTIN to the preparation.

6. Dispense desired amount of ÆLITE LS Packable composite onto a light-protected mixing pad by turning the syringe handle clockwise.
NOTE: To prevent excess material from extruding, turn the syringe handle counterclockwise immediately after the desired amount is dispensed.

7. Place 1-2 mm increments of composite into cavity preparation and build the restoration incrementally. Light-cure each increment for 20 seconds at 500mW/cm2. Use the pre-selected DENTIN shade initially and then the ENAMEL shade. Fill to the cavosurface margin. The final increment should be light-cured for 30 seconds.

8. Check the occlusion and begin finishing procedures. Apply a surface sealant such as FORTIFY™* or FORTIFY PLUS, according to the manufacturer's instructions, OR if using BisCover™* Liquid Polish, finish and apply BisCover according to the manufacturer's instructions. These products will improve marginal integrity and reduce wear and staining.

MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS
APPLYING ETCHANT:
ETCH-37 or UNI-ETCH

a. Apply etchant using an EZ-DOSE™* TIP, a disposable syringe tip, or disposable brush tip. Allow etchant to remain in place for 15 seconds. Etching time should begin at the end of application.

b. Rinse thoroughly (at least 5 seconds) to completely remove etchant.

APPLYING ADHESIVE:
ONE-STEP or ONE-STEP PLUS

a. With the surface visibly moist, apply a minimum of two generous coats of ONE-STEP (OS) or ONE-STEP PLUS (OS+). (To activate UNIT-DOSE VIAL, see instructions on pouch.)

b. Using a gentle stream of air, thoroughly evaporate the solvent from the OS or OS+.
NOTE: The surface should be shiny. If not, apply more OS or OS+ and evaporate solvent again.

c. Light-cure for a minimum of 10 seconds at 500mW/cm2.

ALL-BOND 2

a. With the surface visibly moist, mix ALL-BOND 2 Primers A & B and apply a minimum of five generous coats.

b. Using a gentle stream of air, thoroughly evaporate the solvent from the A & B.
NOTE: The surface should be shiny. If not, apply more A & B and evaporate solvent.

c. Apply one coat of D/E Resin and air thin.

d. Light-cure for 20 seconds at 500mW/cm2.

APPLYING BISCOVER:

a. To the cured composite and adjacent tooth structure, apply etchant (UNI-ETCH)for 15 seconds.

b. Rinse and dry.

c. Apply one thin coat of BisCover.

d. Using a conventional halogen light, light-cure for 30 seconds at 500mW/cm2 (7.5J/cm2).

WHAT IS EOP?

Energy for Optimization of Polymerization [EOP] is the minimum amount of energy required to achieve clinically acceptable polymerization of a 2mm thick layer of composite, assuming the tip of the curing light is 1-2mm away from the composite surface. EOP differs with the shade of the composite.

CALCULATING CURING TIME:
Energy delivered to the surface of the composite depends on power density of the light, spectral output of the light [useful energy], exposure time and the distance between the light probe and the composite surface. Assume the EOP on a composite syringe label is 10 Joules [10J]. You must first determine the output, or power density [expressed as PD], of your halogen or PAC light. Use a radiometer to determine this value. For example, if you set your light output (PD) for 500mW/cm2, then the calculation is as follows:

  1. Conversion: 10J [from the composite label] is equivalent to 10,000 mJoules.
  2. Curing time required = EOP = 10,000 = 20 seconds
    PD   500

STORAGE
: Store at room temperature (22°C/72°F). Refer to individual component labels for specific expiration dates.

PRECAUTIONS: Unpolymerized resins may cause skin sensitization in susceptible persons. In case of contact with the skin, wash thoroughly with soap and water.
