CAVITY CLEANSER™*
2% Chlorhexidine Digluconate

GENERAL INFORMATION

CAVITY CLEANSER is a 2% chlorhexidine digluconate aqueous solution intended for cleansing, moistening and disinfecting cavity preparations. It is recommended for use upon completion of tooth preparation or etching, prior to sealing dentinal tubules. Chlorhexidine has been used successfully for many years in the oral cavity as an antimicrobial agent1,2.

It has been shown that thorough cleansing of cavity preparations to remove debris and bacteria decreases post-operative sensitivity3. When inadequate caries removal or microleakage allows bacteria to colonize or proliferate in the smear layer of the cavity preparation, bacterial toxins and degradation products can mediate pulpal injury. The use of an antimicrobial agent, such as CAVITY CLEANSER, prior to placing restorations, may help eliminate patient discomfort associated with this microbial activity.

Chlorhexidine has been shown to be a safe and effective antimicrobial agent against bacteria in the oral environment. Chlorhexidine is actually adsorbed by the dentin, producing a prolonged antimicrobial effect in low concentrations.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE

WITH DIRECT COMPOSITE RESTORATIONS

1. Isolate tooth and prepare the cavity. Rinse and dry.

2. Etch enamel and dentin for 15 seconds with phosphoric acid such as UNI-ETCH®* with BAC**, according to manufacturer's instructions. A dry, but non-desiccated, surface is ideal before applying CAVITY CLEANSER. If using a self-etch adhesive such as ALL-BOND SE™*, skip step 2 and proceed with step 3.

3. Moisten dentin surface with CAVITY CLEANSER using a brush or foam pellet.

4. Remove puddled solution with a new foam pellet, leaving site moist. Do not dry.

5. Apply an adhesive, such as ALL-BOND 2®*, ALL-BOND 3™*, ALL-BOND SE or ONE-STEP®*/ONE-STEP PLUS according to manufacturer's instructions.

6. Continue with direct composite technique.

WITH INDIRECT RESTORATIONS

1. Complete tooth preparation, rinse with water and air dry.

2. Moisten dentin surface with CAVITY CLEANSER using a brush or foam pellet.

3. Air dry for one second to remove excess solution.

4. Proceed with placement of provisional restoration.

5. When patient returns for cementation appointment, remove provisional restoration.

6. Clean the preparation with a slurry of pumice and water. Rinse and dry.

7. Etch enamel and dentin for 15 seconds with phosphoric acid such as UNI-ETCH with BAC, according to manufacturer's instructions. A dry, but non-desiccated, surface is ideal before applying CAVITY CLEANSER. If using a self-etch adhesive such as ALL-BOND SE, skip step 7 and proceed with step 8.

8. Moisten dentin surface with CAVITY CLEANSER using a brush or foam pellet.

9. Remove puddled solution with a new foam pellet, leaving site moist. Do not dry.

10. Apply an adhesive, such as ALL-BOND 2, ALL-BOND 3, ALL-BOND SE or ONE-STEP/ONE-STEP PLUS according to manufacturer's instructions.

11. Continue with cementation of indirect restoration.
