Crown & Bridge Luting Cement
Self-Cured

GENERAL INFORMATION

C&B CEMENT is a self-cured crown and bridge luting composite cement with viscosity and flow characteristics that make it ideal for indirect restorations. It is intended for cementation of inlays, onlays, crowns, fixed partial dentures, Maryland Bridges as well as fiber and metallic posts. This versatile cement can be used successfully with precious, semi-precious, and non-precious metals and for cementation of all-ceramic/porcelain and composite fixed prostheses. C&B is intended for use with adhesives such as ALL-BOND^®* 2 or ONE-STEP^®* adhesive systems.

C&B Opaque is recommended for restorations such as Maryland Bridges, which require masking underlying metal. It is also recommended for cementation of single units, due to a shorter setting time.

C&B Natural is recommended for aesthetic restorations requiring a natural tooth shade beneath the restoration. It is also recommended for cementation of multiple units, due to a longer setting time.

C&B Natural with Fluoride should be used in areas particularly susceptible to caries and would benefit from the anticariogenic effect of fluoride. It is also recommended for cementation of multiple units, due to a longer setting time.

At Room Temperature (22°C/72°F):

To Increase Working Time/Slow Setting Time:
(Recommended for cementation of multiple units)

• Increase catalyst. (This is the OPPOSITE of most catalyst/base cements.) Catalyst can be increased up to a ratio of 3:1 with the base before physical properties are affected.
• Chill cement in refrigerator before use.
• A chilled glass slab for spatulation can help slow the set of the cement.
  

HELPFUL HINTS

Metal Preparation:

• Sandblasting the inside surface of the restoration will produce much higher bond strengths than abrasion with a diamond bur.
• Tin plating is not recommended if using ALL-BOND 2 Adhesive System. If tin plating is used make sure the metal surface has been thoroughly rinsed (approx. 30 sec.) prior to cementation.

Use of PRE-BOND™* RESIN:

PRE-BOND RESIN retards the acceleration effect of ALL-BOND 2 Primers A and B on self-cured and dual-cured composites. PRE-BOND should be applied in a thin layer immediately before cementation. If PRE-BOND is allowed to set on the tooth over the primers for a long time, its effectiveness is diminished and working time is decreased. This could cause the cement to set prematurely before complete seating of the crown, resulting in a high-seated restoration.

Loading the Prosthesis with C&B:

• Do not overload the crown/bridge with cement.
• The restoration should only be lined with the cement.

Seating the Restoration:

• Sensitivity under crowns bonded with composite cement can be avoided by applying the priming adhesive correctly and by passively placing the crown using light pressure only.
• Holding the crown in place (while polymerization occurs) with excessive force may cause hydrostatic pressure sensitivity upon release of the restoration.

C&B Luting Cement left on the mixing pad may appear not to set:

• This is due to oxygen inhibition of the polymerization process.
• Rest assured the cement under the restoration will polymerize (set) in a normal fashion.
• The user can confirm this by placing a Mylar strip over a substantial amount of cement on a mixing pad; the cement will set within the specified setting time.

Clean-up:

• C&B sets very hard; removal of excess cement should begin as soon as the crown is seated.
• Failure to remove the cement early may result in the cement adhering to areas from which it should be removed

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE

METAL-BASED RESTORATION CEMENTATION

A. Tooth Preparation

1. Remove provisional restorations; clean the preparation and try-in the definitive restoration. If Eugenol-containing temporary cements were used, clean the preparation with pumice to remove all traces of the cement. Eugenol may affect curing of some composite materials.

2. Etch using an etchant, such as ETCH-37™* or UNI-ETCH^®*, according to the manufacturer's instructions.

3. Apply an adhesive, such as ALL-BOND 2, ONE-STEP or ONE-STEP PLUS according to manufacturer's instructions.

B. Cementation

1. Sandblast the internal surface of the restoration OR the metal wings of a Maryland Bridge. Rinse and dry.

2. Apply a metal primer such as ALL-BOND 2 PRIMER B to the internal surface of the restoration OR the metal wings and air dry.

3. If using the dual-syringe delivery system, follow the enclosed DUAL-SYRINGE INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE for dispensation and delivery of C&B. If using individual syringes, mix equal amounts of C&B base and catalyst into a uniform paste (10-15 seconds) until the paste is a uniform color. (To increase working time, follow directions listed under TECHNICAL INFORMATION.)

4. Fill the internal surface of the restoration with C&B using an instrument.

5. Seat the restoration with light continuous pressure.

6. Remove excess cement immediately with a brush or instrument.

B. Restoration Preparation

All-Ceramic/Porcelain Restoration:

1. Sandblast internal surface of restoration for 1-2 seconds and etch^u with PORCELAIN ETCHANT* (for 3-4 minutes with 4% hydrofluoric acid or 1-2 minutes with 9.5%). Rinse with water and air dry.

2. Apply a silane agent such as PORCELAIN PRIMER* to the internal surface for 30 seconds. Dry with air syringe.

3. Apply one coat of a 5th generation adhesive such as ONE-STEP. Air dry to evaporate solvent. Light-cure for 10 seconds. OR
Apply a thin layer of a light-cured bonding resin such as D/E Resin*. Air thin. DO NOT LIGHT-CURE.

Composite Restoration:

1. Sandblast internal surface of restoration for 1-2 seconds. Rinse with water and air dry.

2. Apply two coats of ONE-STEP. Air dry. Light-cure for 10 seconds. OR
Apply a thin layer of a light-cured bonding resin such as D/E Resin. Air thin. DO NOT LIGHT- CURE.

C. Cementation:

1. If using the dual-syringe delivery system, follow the enclosed DUAL-SYRINGE INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE for dispensation and delivery of C&B. If using individual syringes, mix equal amounts of C&B base and catalyst into a uniform paste (10-15 seconds) until the paste is a uniform color. (To increase working time, follow directions listed under TECHNICAL INFORMATION.)

2. Fill the internal surface of the restoration with C&B.

3. Seat the restoration with light continuous pressure.

4. Remove excess cement immediately with a brush or instrument.

A. Post Space Preparation

1. Etch using an etchant, such as ETCH-37 or UNI-ETCH, according to manufacturer's instructions, and rinse with water.

2. Blot the canal dry with a large paper point, leaving the dentin visibly moist.

3. Apply an adhesive, such as ALL-BOND 2, ONE-STEP or ONE-STEP PLUS, according to the manufacturer's instructions.

4. Blot the canal dry with a paper point; repeat with a new paper point until the paper point returns dry from the canal. This step is important for removal of any pooled primers so that there is no interference in complete seating of the post.

5. Light-cure adhesive as necessary, according to manufacturer's instructions.

B. Post Cementation

1. Coat the post with an adhesive and light-cure according to manufacturer's instructions.

2. If using the dual-syringe delivery system, follow the enclosed DUAL-SYRINGE INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE for dispensation and delivery of C&B. If using individual syringes, mix equal amounts of C&B base and catalyst into a uniform paste (10-15 seconds) until the paste is a uniform color.

3. Fill a UNIT-DOSE NEEDLE-TIP* with C&B and inject it in the canal. Start at the apical end of the canal and withdraw the tip towards the pulp chamber.

4. Seat the post into the canal gently and maintain firm pressure for 5-10 seconds once the post is seated.

5. Remove excess cement and allow to self-cure. As soon as cement has set, proceed with restorative treatment.

HOW SUPPLIED:

STORAGE: Store at room temperature (22°C/72°F). See individual component labels for specific expiration dates.

PRECAUTIONS: Uncured resins may cause skin sensitization in susceptible persons. In case of contact with the skin, wash thoroughly with soap and water. Hydrofluoric acid is a severe eye irritant and tissue irritant. If accidentally splashed into the eye flush with copious amounts of water and seek medical attention immediately. Contact with other tissues: rinse spills immediately with plenty of water for several minutes. Injury may result if etchant is allowed to remain on the skin or mucosa for extended periods of time.

C&B left on the mixing pad may appear not to set. This is due to oxygen inhibition of the polymerization process. Rest assured, C&B will polymerize (set) in a normal fashion. The user can confirm this by placing a Mylar strip over the excess material on the pad; it will set within the specified period of time.
