The Importance of Try-In Paste in Veneer Cementation
To successfully place veneers, there are several factors to consider such as substrate, cement shade, and fit. One of the most important considerations for clinicians, however, is understanding how each of these three factors interact with one another. Different combinations of the currently available substrates and cement shades, along with the fit of the restoration may either help or hinder in achieving the patient’s esthetic goals. Being able to visualize the final results, prior to the final seating, can allow for a smoother and more successful veneer cementation process.
Utilizing Try-In Paste
Try-in paste can be used during the veneer cementation process to simulate the shade effect that the permanent cement will impart onto the restoration, and ultimately, in the patient’s smile. Clinicians may apply a thin layer of try-in paste to the internal surface of the veneer and place it onto the prepared tooth to review the combination of the selected substrate, shade, and fit. This can help in visualizing the appearance of the final seating.

The exact step-by-step guide to implementing try-in paste will likely differ between product manufacturers, however, the try-in process will not have drastic changes.
