Description

37% Phosphoric Acid Etchant with Benzalkonium Chloride
Etch-37 w/BAC is a 32% phosphoric acid semi-gel etchant with Benzalkonium Chloride (BAC) that is effective at quickly etching enamel and dentin. Etch-37 w/BAC is blue in color for easy visualization and contrast, creates micro retentive surface characteristics that are necessary for successful bonding, and rinses away cleanly and quickly leaving no residue to interfere with bonding. Etch-37 w/BAC utilizes a polymer to create thixotropic properties, thus enhancing handling characteristics.

  • A 4-syringe pack of Etch-37 w/BAC can provide approximately 120 applications (30 applications per 5g syringe).
  • A 30g Bulk Bottle of Etch-37 w/BAC can provide approximately 185 applications.
  • A 30ml Bulk Syringe of Etch-37 w/BAC can provide approximately 195 applications.

Unique Benefits:

  • Rinses away cleanly and quickly leaving no residue to interfere with bonding
  • Blue in color for easy visualization and contrast
  • Creates microretentive surface characteristics that are necessary for successful bonding

Clinical Significance:

  • Etch-37 w/BAC contains benzalkonium chloride (BAC), an antimicrobial agent. In-vitro research shows it is effective against Streptococcus mutans1,2

NOTE: Inclusion of BAC has not been shown to correlate with a reduction in secondary decay in patients. In-vivo clinical studies to evaluate the effects of BAC on oral bacteria or caries have not been performed.

Frequently asked Questions

Can I use the selective-etch technique with Etch-37 w/BAC?

Yes. You can use Etch-37 w/BAC for selective-etch. However, BISCO recommends using Select HV Etch w/BAC for selective-etch, due to its high viscosity and gel state which allows for pin-point placement.

Is there any difference between Uni-Etch w/BAC and Etch-37 w/BAC?

Yes. Uni-Etch w/BAC is a 32% phosphoric acid etch while Etch-37 w/BAC is a 37% phosphoric acid etch. This is the only difference between the two etchants.

What are the storage requirements for Etch-37 w/BAC?

Store at room temperature (20°C/68°F - 25°C/77°F). Store away from direct sunlight.

What is BAC and what benefits does it provide?

Benzalkonium chloride (BAC) is an antimicrobial agent. When BAC is present, research confirms the development of residual bacterial inhibition zones of up to 7mm when challenged with Actinomyces viscosus.1

NOTE: The inclusion of benzalkonium chloride has not been shown to correlate with a reduction in secondary decay in patients. In-vivo clinical studies to evaluate the effects of benzalkonium chloride on oral bacteria or caries have not been performed.

How does the “blue” color of Etch-37 w/BAC make etching easier?

Etch-37 w/BAC’sblue color allows for easy identification and contrast where deep color differentiation is important. The vibrant color assists clinicians in being able to see the product during placement and removal procedures.

How long should I etch or clean my restorations with Etch-37 w/BAC?

- Dentin and enamel should be etched for 15 seconds.

- If using phosphoric acid as a cleaning agent on dental restorative materials: 30 seconds.

Why is Etch-37 w/BAC’s thixotropic viscosity significant?

BISCO’s semi-gel etchants (i.e. Etch-37 w/BAC) utilize a polymer to create thixotropic properties and enhance handling characteristics. It is more versatile than thicker gel etchants because it can be easily manipulated into small areas such as endodontically treated root canals and undercuts.

Can Etch-37 w/BAC be used with any other tips than the 25 gauge blue tips that are provided?

It is recommended to use the tips that arrive with the product, which have been tested for optimal dispensing. The 25 gauge tip should be used with the 1g syringe, and the 22 gauge tip should be used with the 5g syringe.
