Description
35% Phosphoric Acid Etchant with Benzalkonium Chloride
Select HV Etch is a 35% high viscosity phosphoric etch available with Benzalkonium Chloride (BAC), an antimicrobial agent. Its high viscosity offers precise placement, making it ideal for the selective-etch technique. However, it can be used for the total-etch and self-etch techniques as well. Select HV Etch is specially formulated for maximum working and handling, pin-point placement performance, and eliminating run-on onto the dentin surface.
4-syringe pack of Select HV Etch w/BAC provides approximately 120 applications (30 applications per 5g syringe).
30ml Bulk Syringe Kit of Select HV Etch w/BAC can provide approximately 195 applications. The kit also contains 30 disposable syringes and 30 tips.
30ml Bulk Syringe of Select HV Etch w/BAC can provide approximately 195 applications.
Unique Benefits:
- Rinses away cleanly and quickly leaving no residue to interfere with bonding
- Blue in color for easy visualization and contrast
- Microretentive surface characteristics that are necessary for successful bonding
Clinical Significance:
- Contains benzalkonium chloride (BAC), an antimicrobial agent. In-vitro research shows it is effective against Streptococcus mutans1,2
NOTE: Inclusion of BAC has not been shown to correlate with a reduction in secondary decay in patients. In-vivo clinical studies to evaluate the effects of BAC on oral bacteria or caries have not been performed.

Which etching techniques are Select HV Etch most suitable for?
Select HV is ideal for the selective-etch technique. Its high viscosity offers pin-point placement making it ideal for etching enamel margins, otherwise known as the selective or “hybrid” etch technique. Select HV Etch can also be used for the total-etch technique. Etching with Select HV Etch significantly improves the quality of the etch pattern and increases the bond at the enamel margin.
Can I still use Select HV Etch with the total-etch technique?
Select HV Etch was designed for the selective-etch technique given it has a high viscosity. It can be used with the total-etch technique, but BISCO recommends using Uni-Etch or Etch-37 instead for total-etch. These etchants have a lower viscosity and are in a semi-gel state, meaning they will have a smoother flow.
What are the storage requirements for Select HV Etch?
Store at room temperature (20°C/68°F - 25°C/77°F). Store away from direct sunlight.

How long should I etch or clean my restorations with Select HV Etch?
- Dentin and enamel, or enamel only, should be etched for 15 seconds.
- If using phosphoric acid as a cleaning agent on dental restorative materials: 30 seconds.
How does the “blue” color of Select HV Etch make etching easier?
Select HV Etch’s electric blue color allows for easy identification and contrast where deep color differentiation is important. The vibrant color assists clinicians in being able to see the product during placement and removal procedures.
